"Nach" MEYER 12-key Ivory headed
(click on pictures for larger verzion)
I have always felt a bit leery of simple system flutes in the Meyers’ tradition when they had the term “NACH” before the name Meyer.  But the very thing that made genuine Meyers’ flutes special is also an integral part of this very fine instrument.  Each pair of posts is mounted on its own small metal pad which is then securely screwed into the Grenadilla body thus guaranteeing accuracy in delivering every key to its rightful destination.  The ivory head arrived with a substantial crack running right through the embouchure hole, which made it virtually unplayable…..I first removed the brass tube from the ivory; then disinfected and cleaned the ivory casing.  I then reinserted the tube and filled the crack fully with anhydrous epoxy…when that set I capped the crack with a modern acrylic (AcryliKey ®) used for repairing fine ivory piano keys. It is visible but completely sealed and smooth to the touch and plays as it was meant to).   The crown and headwork assembly is completely functional and the cork is new. Each key has been cleaned, lubricated, polished and fitted with a new pad.  The tuning barrel and head joint move  freely and the tenons have been all recorked and tested for leakage (none)  This is a 12 key flute with an extra lever key (for the right first finger) for G# ….the lever is missing as well as one of its posts.  The G# is normally activated by the thumb of the left hand and that is still as it should be.  The case is a modern high impact plastic with a carved out high density gray foam interior insert to accommodate the vintage flute as a three (3) sectioned instrument.
