Douglas Rosewood Flute

About a month ago I got this lovely flute in a trade from a friend in England and it needed restoration which I've just completed.

It is marked  "Douglas & Co, London" on the head joint,  who was, according to the New Langwell Index, a Musical Instrument dealer flourishing in London in the late 19th and early 20th century.

The flute is now in perfect condition other than a small scratch in the surface of the wood of the tuning barrel.  It had a crack in the head joint and another in the tuning barrel.  I repaired both cracks. I replaced all the pads, corks and completely refinished and oiled the wood both inside and out and it came out beautifully.

It plays down to D and is ideal for folk and Irish traditional music as well as small ensemble. The keys and all metal fittings are German Silver and the embouchure hole is original and still perfectly cut and sharp.

It came in a small embossed leather and wood box, which was not much protection, but will be included as well as a modern high impact plastic case with a high density foam interior carved specifically for this Douglas.
