This is a Rittershausen, early 20th century flute imported by Carl Fischer of New York. The Carl Fischer logo is a slightly gilded impression on the upper part of the main body. Fischer was known to have imported Rittershausen flutes as one of his premier Boehm offerings.
This flute is now in wonderful condition as is its original case and feather swab. Even the original leather handle is still beautifully intact. The lock is fully functional with a key.
The head-joint had been fitted with a flush band to repair a crack to it. I've completely sealed and filled the original crack and remounted the flush band (I think it's very attractive though no longer needed). The crown and headwork assembly is completely functional and the cork is new. The embouchure hole is clean and sharp and the tenon joints of the head and upper body fit and seal completely. All the pads had been replaced with Valentino synthetic pads but have been since removed and traditional medium double bladder PRECISION ® are now in place with perfect seating and sealing. The steels have all been removed and lubricated and all keys freshly repinned, all the axles have been lubricated as well. The springs are adjusted for maximum ease of play. The lower body tenon and foot joint tenon seat snugly and seal and the body and keys have been cleaned and polished.
The case has been brought back to complete functionality without losing its feel of age.
I've thoroughly enjoyed both restoring and playing this lovely flute. |
