COLM GANNON & JOHN BLAKE

Colm Gannon was born in Boston, Mass., of Connemara parents, and has now returned to live at home in Ireland. He learned to play the accordion from his father and added to his knowledge of the music by listening to and playing with the finest musicians, young and old, of Boston’s Irish community. He has played with the best players in Ireland since returning home, and his debut CD is a great credit to his musical abilities. Released in June of 2005, “Return To Droim” is filled with music which reflects the effervescence and joie-de-vivre of Colm’s personality. Accompanied on the recording by John Blake, he is joined on some tracks by Jesse Smith and John Carty; this is mature, melodic music that is well worth listening to.

John Blake is not only one of the best and most sought after piano and guitar accompanists on the scene today, but also a highly skilled flute player.  His recent CD, "Traditional Irish Music from London" is outstanding.

Together, these two lads play some mighty music, vital and energetic, technically brilliant, musically compelling and devastatingly good.  Their playing demonstrates how good musicians such as Colm and John can show their individual talents and yet bring them all together to create an organic whole, a musical conversation where varied points of view are expressed freely but always reconciled.
