Don WRIGHT sends in the following addition to the 17-strand double flat braid tutorial on an easy way to reduce the braid in size
by stepping down the number of lines to allow a smaller cover knot or for joining two braids into one.
For right now, this covers the reduction: he's still working on doing the join-up pictures and they'll get published as soon as
finished.
Instructions and notes are contained in the LARGER pictures as well as on the page.
THANKS, DON! Bravo Zulu!

When you are at the point to drop 4 leads down to 13,
finish up with U4 O4 on both sides. Drop the 4 innermost
cords.
Let them hang down as you continue but now with an
O3/U3 sequence. Continue braiding for 3 or 4 inches
and then you can go back and inter-weave the 4 cords
(orphans) between layers of the braid. You will hardly be
able to tell where the transition is and it will take a
smaller cover knot to hide the area.
